CEEG 220 kV Main Transformer Sets Off for Mozambique

2026-02-04 15:53

As the blazing sun scorches the land of Mozambique and the humid air feels heavy enough to wring water from, what kind of transformer can truly take root, withstand the harsh environment, and operate safely and reliably under such conditions?

Recently, two 220 kV main transformers, model SFPZ18-180000/220, manufactured by CEEG as the core equipment for the Valken Environmental Project, delivered a clear answer through a nearly “stringent” full-scope assessment. After successfully passing all required tests, the transformers are now ready to cross mountains and oceans, bringing stable and reliable power to southeastern Africa.

1. A Transformer’s “Tropical Survival Guide”: Four Keys to Extreme Durability

In a hot and humid tropical climate, a transformer operates much like carrying a heavy load inside a sauna. Anticipating these challenges, CEEG’s engineers designed a tailor-made survival strategy for the two units.

(1) A “Full-Score Report Card” from 36 Rigorous Tests

From short-circuit withstand capability tests to relay gas accumulation tests, the two transformers successfully passed 36 comprehensive tests in one go—including: 9 type tests, 25 routine tests, and 2 targeted special tests. Every performance indicator exceeded the applicable standards.

Even more importantly, 22 of these tests were witnessed on site by the customer, allowing them to verify the results firsthand. This ensures that once the transformers arrive at site, they are truly “plug-and-play”, enabling seamless commissioning and reliable operation from day one.

(2)Seven-Level Temperature Control: An “Intelligent Thermal Management System”

Designed for tropical operating conditions at altitudes below 1,000 meters, CEEG’s engineers equipped the transformers with a true “smart brain.” An innovative core-and-winding structure, combined with seven-level temperature control technology and high-efficiency forced-air coolers, works like a precisely tuned body-temperature regulation system for the equipment.

Even when ambient temperatures continue to soar, the temperatures of all key components remain firmly under control, ensuring long-term stable and reliable operation without compromise.

(3) “Slimmer Yet Stronger”: The Energy-Saving Formula

Durability doesn’t have to come with a bulky appearance. By optimizing both the structural design and cooling technology, these two transformers achieve high performance in a slimmer, more compact, and visually refined form.

More importantly, their losses are significantly reduced, fully complying with the latest GB 20052-2024 energy efficiency standard. This translates directly into lower operating costs for the customer—real savings where it matters most.

(4)Low Noise, Low Vibration: Environmentally Friendly by Design

Mature cooling and structural technologies give the transformers a built-in “silent mode,” delivering low noise and minimal vibration during operation. While safeguarding stable power supply, they also treat the surrounding environment with care—truly thoughtful, environment-conscious equipment.

2. More Than Equipment: A Reliable Answer for Tropical Power Systems

The delivery of these two transformers represents more than a single product handover—it provides a practical, proven reference for transformer selection in tropical regions. From application-specific design to comprehensive verification, every detail reflects CEEG’s deep technical expertise in medium- and high-voltage transformers. This is not theoretical “paper-based engineering,” but field-proven solutions capable of withstanding demanding environments. Choosing these transformers means choosing a rigorously validated technical solution, a reliable quality assurance system, and a professional technical service team providing full-cycle support. For power projects that must operate reliably under challenging environmental conditions, this is the kind of partner that truly delivers peace of mind.

From the factory floor in China to the construction site in Mozambique, what is crossed is not only distance, but a commitment written by CEEG with vision, innovation, and responsibility. In the days ahead, these transformers will stand quietly under Africa’s blazing sun, faithfully safeguarding power supply. And CEEG will continue to carry this same professionalism forward—delivering ever more reliable “Power from China” to the world.
